See what other books I’m planning to read in 2016 here!
Hello everyone!
Now, I know what you are thinking…”What the heck are ‘tweet-worthy’ authors, MC? What are you talking about?” Well, what I mean by “tweet-worthy authors” is authors who have created a relationship with their readers on the Internet – and put enough effort into this relationship that their readers really take notice.
How it all began…
Let me tell you a little story about how this whole thing started…
A while ago, I was mindlessly scrolling through Twitter, stalking all my friends (as you do), and some tweets by this lovely author named Jodi Meadows caught my eye. I noticed that she was chatting with some of her readers – and chatting about things that weren’t even related to her books or reading in general. I’ve never read anything by Jodi Meadows and she’s always been on my radar, but that interaction really made me notice her. The fact that she really took the time to connect with her fans really impressed me and got me thinking. I have since had the pleasure of interacting with Jodi on Twitter and I can now say that she is truly amazing.
A little while after that, I found myself in a very random Twitter conversation with Rainbow Rowell (another author I’ve never read), where we quoted fantastic lyrics from LFO and talked about what musical genuises they were. (If you don’t know LFO, that means you were probably born in this millenium and you make me feel old. Also, look them up and your life will be changed forever.) It’s not like we discussed anything important, but that moment was really fun and it’s something I will definitely remember. After this conversation, I started thinking – these authors were really impressing me…maybe I should give them a chance.
Recently, as I was reading (and falling in love with) Illuminae, I was tweeting about how much I loved it. And Jay Kristoff was so gracious and wonderful in his responses to me. Amie Kaufman was also very sweet, but I personally had a bit more interaction with Jay. Mr. Kristoff sealed the deal for me. This idea had been sloshing around in my head for a while, and it was time to take action.
So I made a decision: I wanted to support these amazing authors even more in 2016. They really impressed me and I want to show them a little extra love and finally read their books. I feel like I need to clarify – I have NEVER been upset that an author didn’t respond to me on Twitter. They all have lives just like the rest of us do and by no means do I feel like I deserve a response. However, if an author does make that little extra effort to reach out to me, it makes me feel really special, and it makes me take notice.
Apparently it makes you guys take notice too. Twice in the past month, I took to the Interwebs and I asked you all for recommendations of authors who made an effort to connect with their readers. Well, I was hoping to come up with a list of about five “tweet-worthy” authors that I could read in 2016….and you guys gave me a list of OVER 40 AUTHORS! And the best part of it is that those authors joined right in the conversation, saying how special you made them feel! It makes me so happy to see how much you guys love these authors and how much they really love all of you.

My Top 5 “Tweet-Worthy Authors”….
Before this post gets too long, let’s get down to the point. I have picked five authors who I have had the absolute pleasure of personally interacting with on Twitter. I plan on showing them a little extra love in 2016 by reading some (if not all) of their books. And I would also like to learn more about some of the other authors you guys recommended and give them some extra support as well!
Here are my top 5 tweet-worthy authors that I will be reading in 2016…
Jodi Meadows
I’ve always wanted to read Jodi’s Incarnate series, and when I tweeted that I finally bought it and was jumping on the Jodi Meadows bandwagon, Jodi immediately tweeted me, welcoming me aboard and offering me cookies. I mean, come on, how sweet is she??? I still want to read Jodi’s books, but I also want to be her best friend.
Jay Kristoff / Amie Kaufman
I have read Illuminae, but I haven’t read any of Jay’s individual works. I knew I wanted to give him a try after being blown away by Illuminae, but then he turned out to be one of the coolest people on the Internet, and now I really want to show him some love. I am totally cheating and including Amie Kaufman in here because I ran out of room in my top 5….and she deserves my love, too! I’ve heard great things about her other books, and now I’m even more excited to read them!
Rainbow Rowell
As I mentioned, Rainbow Rowell can quote LFO, and that makes her A-OK in my book. I also recently read her short story that was included in My True Love Gave to Me and I adored it, so now I am really looking forward to trying her books.
Heidi Heilig
I actually didn’t know who this lovely lady was until I started becoming more active on Twitter. Then I was suddenly seeing her name everywhere! I’ve noticed her forming friendships with a lot of readers on Twitter, and her honesty and her support of the bookish community makes me really respect her. Plus, her book, The Girl From Everywhere (coming out in February), sounds awesome!
S. Usher Evans
I had actually never heard of S. Usher Evans until she was suggested to me when I first asked Twitter for their favorite authors. Since then, I have had the pleasure of talking with her a bit, and I have seen the lovely friendships she has created with so many readers on Twitter. So now I must give her books a try!
All the amazing authors!
And now, here is the list of all the FANTASTICALLY WONDERFUL authors you all suggested. Click on any of their names and it will take you right to their Twitter account, where you can follow them and start chatting immediately. I do hope you will show them some extra love in 2016, because it has become clear to me that they all love you very much. 🙂
Will you join me in 2016 and show these authors some love? Do you have any other favorite “tweet-worthy authors?” I would love to see this list grow and grow!
