8:00am EST

Well, hello there, beautiful internet people! Good morning! Dewey’s 24-hour Read-a-thon has officially started on the East Coast! Honestly, being awake at 8am is something that I am not used to, so it will probably take me a little while to get going this morning.

I am going to keep updating this post throughout the day, so you can see my progress (and possibly my descent into nonsensical ramblings) as the readathon continues.

So here is where I’m at in all my books as the readathon starts:

  • on page 96 (of 435) of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling
  • on page 50 (of 418) of Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
  • on page 158 (of 368) of A Tyranny of Petticoats, edited by Jessica Spotswood
  • on page 40 (of 320) of Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes

Ok, off I go! Wish me luck with all my reading! I’m still not sure which book I want to pick up first…you will have to check back in a few hours and see what I picked!

10:30am EST

We are in the middle of hour three! I can’t believe it! I actually slept through hour one of the readathon, unfortunately. Oh well. Now I will be eve more rested so I can read, read, read!

I decided to pick up Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes this morning, and I managed to read to page 100, so I have read 60 pages so far! This is actually pretty good for me, because I am a pretty slow reader. I’m enjoying it and I might try to get this book finished today!

I’ve got some coffee brewing as I write this update, and after a quick snack, I think I will read for another hour or so before I have to run to the post office.

How is your readathon going so far???

1:00pm EST

Well, these last few hours weren’t so productive. I read about another 50 pages in Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes, so now I’m about halfway through the book. I had to run out and do some errands, so that cut into my reading a bit.

Now I’m sitting on my porch because it is finally warm enough to read outside (although it’s a bit gloomy here in CT today) and I am waiting for some pizza to be delivered so I can get energized and get this book finished!

Read like the wind, people!

I finished a book! Yay! I just finished reading Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes, which means I have read 280 pages today! All in all, today is turning out to be pretty nice – I treated myself to some yummy pizza (which I rarely do), the sun came out so I could read outside, and I finished a book!

I think it’s time for a change of scenery along with a new book. I’m not sure which book I will pick up next. I better decide soon! I’m actually feeling pretty good 8 hours into this readathon. My eyes are a tiny bit tired, but I feel like I could read a lot more!

Let’s do it! Read, read, read!

6:45pm EST

My reading is slowing down drastically. I still feel pretty good and my eyes aren’t that tired yet, but I can’t seem to find a book that I’m really in the mood for. All I’ve read in the past couple hours is 45 pages of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling and one short story, or 28 pages in A Tyranny of Petticoats, edited by Jessica Spotswood. I mean, I’ve still read 353 pages today, which is pretty darn good for me. But I’m starting to feel like I’m losing steam. Maybe I will try to pick up a different book and see if I can get going again.

Hang in there everyone! We are getting close to the halfway point!

9:00pm EST

Ok, my reading slump that lasted a few hours is over! I think it’s slightly hilarious that I had a mini reading slump in the middle of a readathon that only lasts 24 hours. I read a whopping 12 pages in Please Don’t Tell by Laura Tims, before I decided that I am really in the mood for fantasy. So I headed back to Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor and reading 35 pages. Didn’t make a big dent in my reading, but I’m back in the groove. I’m feeling refreshed after eating some dinner (who am I kidding? I ate ice cream), and I am ready to read like crazy until I fall asleep.

That is after I go upstairs and tell my neighbors to turn down their music….ugh, noisy people. 🙂

Happy reading everyone!

11:00pm EST

Why am I reading so slowly?????? I don’t know what’s going on with me, but my reading has slowed to a snail’s pace. But at least I am really enjoying what I am reading. Since the last time I checked in, I only read 22 pages of Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. Oh well. I am glad I picked this one up, though. This is a reread for me, and I spent DAYS trying to decide if I wanted to spend my time rereading it. I’m very happy with my decision! I love this book and I can’t wait to finish rereading this one so I can read the rest of the series!

I’ve read 422 pages so far today, which I’m pretty proud of. During the last readaton in the fall, I read around 550 pages and almost half of those were from graphic novels. I have read only full novels today, and I have taken a lot of breaks, so I’m pretty darn happy with my progress.

Now I am all ready for bed, and full of yummy snacks, and I should hopefully have no more distractions for the rest of the night. I think I might have about two hours of reading left in me before I fall asleep.

Keep reading everyone! You can do it!

1:15am EST

I think I am going to call it a night. I want to keep reading, but my eyes are giving up. I have officially been reading for 16 hours, and that is good enough for me. I read another 40-ish pages in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling, which brings my grand total for the day to 466 pages read. I’m super proud of that, because I have never read that much in one day without the help of graphic novels. Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of my weekends reading almost as much as I did today, so it’s like I’ve been training for this moment! And I think I was pretty successful!

It was a lovely (and long) day and, as always, I am happy that I got to share it with all of you. Good luck to everyone who is still reading! You can do it!

Until next time…good night!

Review: Well, let me start off by saying, I was really nervous about reading The Island. I have developed a friendship of sorts with S. I scanned the earth, looking for snapped branches and flattened grass. Once off the path, the plants grew too thick for me to see the chimera’s tracks from horseback, but I didn’t dare dismount again. If we stumbled upon the creature, the last place I wanted to be was on the ground. […]

Life has been absolutely crazy and I have been neglecting my blog a bit, which breaks my heart. But, I figured it was a good […]
