Oleah Chronicles: Truth tells the story of Angel, an average teenage girl dealing with overprotective parents and the drama of high school. Until everything she knows about her life gets turned upside down as she approaches her seventeenth birthday. A boy named Zander transfers into her school and they instantly form a deep connection. Angel starts having strange dreams and comes to realize that she is not entirely human. Zander teaches Angel all about her kind, the Oleah, mythical creatures from another planet that are half-human, half-lion. Angel and Zander then embark on a whirlwind adventure as they try to protect Angel’s family from an ancient evil.

Overall, I thought this was a good introduction to a new series. It was fast paced and fun. What I enjoyed the most about this story was the characters, and particularly how they fit into Angel’s life before she started learning about the Oleah. Angel was a normal teenager who worried about her grades and gossiped with her best friend about the cutest guy in school. She also had amazing parents who really cared about her. A solid family unit is something that is rarely seen in literature nowadays, so it was very refreshing to read. Despite the paranormal aspects to the story, the characters seemed like real people that were very easy to relate to.

This story was fast-paced, but I wish it hadn’t been quite so fast. The action was non-stop and the reader barely had any time to digest the new information that was being revealed. The book is just under 200 pages, and that does not allow for a lot of time to explain the details of an entirely new mythical species. If the book had been a little bit longer, the reader would have been able to learn more about the Oleah and the other paranormal species that make up this world. This book had a very interesting mix of paranormal creatures – Oleah, vampires, cherubs, and fallen angels. But there was not enough time to learn about all of these characters and the planets that they inhabit in such a short amount of time. Hopefully there will be more world building in any future books that are released.

Oleah Chronicles: Truth told a story that was like nothing I have ever read before. It was a fun read and I am interested in seeing what comes next. This is an impressive debut novel and I look forward to seeing this series grow. If you are looking for a unique fantasy / paranormal read that will suck you into the action quickly, then check this one out.
