I am still very new to this whole blogging thing, but I have been loving every second of it! There is still a ton that I am learning and lots of things that I want to be able to do in the future, but for right now, I am really enjoying the experience! Here are some of my favorite things about this experience so far…
5. Having people to talk to about my love of books! (so the people in my life don’t have to listen to me)
I am very grateful to have a few people in my life that will listen to me go on and on about books or pretend they are excited when I give them yet another tour of my bookshelves. But I know that they really don’t care very much about books. Blogging has been a great outlet for me to talk about books as much as I like with people who love books just as much as I do! It has also greatly increased my book buying problem, because I have been finding so many recommendations, but we won’t get into that right now…
4. Everything I am learning about writing, web design, graphic design, photography, and so much more
I’m not entirely sure what I expected blogging to be like, but I wasn’t really prepared for all the work that goes into it. I pretty much just expected to pick out a theme on WordPress and be on my way. But of course, because I have very specific ideas about how I want things to look, I have had to learn quite a bit about how websites actually work. I remember being completely terrified before I first tried to edit the CSS on my site – I was convinced my whole computer would crash if I typed in the wrong thing. But it worked! And shortly after that, I wanted to change the way something looked on my site and I took a guess at how to do it and edited my CSS and I was right! I was so elated when I figured that out all by myself. I’ve been learning so much through this blogging experience and and I’m having a ton of fun doing it. I am constantly improving on my writing, my site, and my photography (which I still suck at). Believe me, I still need to do lots of research or ask friends for help (especially with the photography – I swear I will never get the hang of that), but I am learning something new all the time and it’s awesome!
3. How much fun it actually is to have a blog
I have been watching BookTube videos for a while now and I have heard people say how much they love what they do so many times. It’s not that I didn’t believe them, but I just didn’t realize how much fun this could actually be. I am really, really enjoying blogging. Starting this blog was one of the scariest decisions I have ever made, but it turned out to be so much fun and I am so glad that I did it.
2. Groups like T5W that help new people get involved with blogging / BookTubing
I am still very new to blogging, so I have been really grateful for groups like Top 5 Wednesday, because they really help members of this community connect with each other. T5W provides me with a writing prompt each week, so I am never worrying about what I want to write about. I am also trying to join in some reading groups through Goodreads, so that I can talk about the books I am reading with other BookTubers and bloggers. [Some of my favorites right now are Reads with Friends and Readalongs with April. Check them out and read with us!] Groups like these have made it so much easier for me to jump right into the blogging world and start connecting with people. Which leads me to my favorite thing about blogging….
1. The community!
Like I said, I have only been blogging for just a few months, so I am still really just getting my feet wet. But from what I have experienced so far, the online book community is made up of some incredibly wonderful people! I am really enjoying talking to people all over the world and getting to know them. I am so looking forward to making some bookish friends this way. I would love to chat with more people or get involved in some buddy reads or even collaborations! I can’t wait to get to know everyone more!
What do you love about blogging or BookTubing? What have you learned through this experience? Any tips for people wanting to get started?
When you start a blog all about books…..
…..blame it on the books.
